Welcome New Knitter

I'm still recovering from four jam-packed days of Thanksgiving, but I'll give you a knitting highlight: Above you see my lovely niece Rebecca working on her first scarf. She learns very quickly, but I did pick up quite few stitches for her -- and in the process learned that it's much harder to pick up stitches in garter than stockinette. Fortunately, she appreciated my flawed efforts. It was so much fun to knit with a niece. I taught my other niece, Jennifer, to knit last summer, but I get the feeling that she hasn't picked it up since.

Considering that DD wouldn't be caught dead knitting, I'm grateful to have at least one budding knitter.

She looks like she's concentrating really hard. I loved learning to knit as a child.

That is really awesome! My daughter (4 years) has shown some interest in learning, but isn't quite ready to sit for long periods of time.

oh this is great! I'm about to teach a niece of her age to knit - any tips for us wanna-be teachers?

I've been teaching my niece for about 2 years when I see her a few times a year. This Thanksgiving I finally got her to try purling. It turns out that she thinks it's easier than knitting. Circular knitting is next. Here's the picture I took of her. http://iknitthereforeiblog.blogspot.com/2006/12/new-recruit.html Amazingly similar!
