Here are the book reviews.
Judith Durant’s One-Skein Wonders was one of the first knitting books I bought. I wanted to knit my first pair of socks, so spend a good bit of time at Borders, perusing books in search of well-explained sock pattern for worsted-weight yarn. (At that point I was sure I’d never have the patience to knit sock-weight!) The pattern for Cozy House Socks looked perfect: simple, clear pattern. I order the Feza Cypress Mohair yarn called for (I was also afraid to use anything but the yarn called for) and spent travel time to California figuring out the ins and outs of sock construction.
I can now say that Cozy House Socks are the perfect first-socks pattern.
Similarly, I bought Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders for one pattern: the Horse Shoe Lace Scarf. I haven’t knit that one yet, but I am loving theses mitts.
I have to admit that I was slow to see the beauty of this series. When I bought One-Skein Wonders, I was buying all my yarn at Michaels and other such big-box stores. Over the last few years, however, I’ve really gotten sucked into the world of luxury yarn. I do have sensitive skin, so I can justify my extravagance to some extent. But I’ve truly fallen in love with the colors that the indie- and high-end dyers bring to their craft.
Sometimes I’m tempted to fill my bathtub with skeins of yummy yarn so that I can climb in and really luxuriate in them!
But I am a mere teacher and I have two kids in college, so I can’t buy enough yarn to fill my tub. Thus, I am flagging more and more of the lovely patterns in these books. That way I can justify the occasional splurge on an amazing skein.

Heh, I have that yarn-bathtub fantasy too!!
isn't it great to look back over our purcahses and see where we've been and how we've changed!!
Thanks for the review! They look really interesting.
Wow, now I'm thinking about a bathtub full of yarn too!
Some of the patterns look great but I've never seen either book in my LYS or bookstore. I love the idea of being able to try out a pricey yarn without guilt... even if you don't get the bathtub experience :)
A while back Wendy of the famous Knit and Tonic posted a picture of herself in a bathtub full of yarn. It wasn't clear if the yarn was all she was wearing - but don't worry, it wasn't inappropriate or anything. It was pretty neat.
Thank you for the blogiversary congratulations :)
I'm very tempted by the luxury one skein book - it would help with my yarn shop visiting if I knew I would find a great pattern for the one skein I can justify buying - it's one of the main reasons I end up buying so much sock yarn. One for the Christmas list for Santa!
I love patterns that just use one skein of yarn - it makes it so much easier to occasionally splurge!
I want to make those fingerless gloves too. The wrist looks really wide in the photo, how did yours turn out? Joni
